“When you start your business, you basically want to get four things in place.

Firstly, you want to get your business registered at CIPC.

Then you want to get a share certificate. Just remember that the shareholders and the directors on the registered company are not the same. So, you want to get an independent share certificate.

The next step would be to open a business bank account.

Lastly, you want to get your tax number verified at SARS.

If you’re going to apply for a contract or a tender, then you’re going to need to get a tax clearance certificate as well.“

“As I mentioned, you need a tax clearance certificate. You also need the basic compliance in place. Once that is in place, there are a couple of other compliance documents that come in. For example, you need to get your COIDA registration done to get a Letter of Good Standing. That is particularly important when you have a business where people can get hurt, like a security company or construction company. The next part is then definitely your VAT registration. If you want to apply for a contract or a tender, then you need a VAT number. So, get that in place. Depending on your industry, you need to be well equipped with what you need in place for that specific industry. For example, a security company needs to be registered with PSIRA. So just make sure from your side, depending on your industry, that you do comply with all the tender requirements to apply for a contract or tender.“

“You can either go to CIPC or, as I would highly recommend, you can go to the professionals, like Company Partners, to register your company.

The process is very simple. You get a name verification and name registration at CIPC. Then you connect that name to a company registration. But let the experts help you.“
